Hand engraved signs in beautiful Welsh Slate
Slate is a grey/blue/green metamorphic rock that is formed from layers of shale. It is a sedimentary rock that is deposited on the bed of streams and rivers, originally formed as deep-water mudstones on an ancient sea-floor around 500 million years ago. These rocks were later uplifted, folded and metamorphosed to form slate about 400 million years ago.
Welsh slate differs a lot from other slate due to its old age. Welsh slate is much denser than any imported slate and it can be said that Welsh slate is tougher and more durable and is considered the best in the world
